The Metal and Electrical industries are the backbone of Israeli industry.
This branch accounts for around one-fifth of industrial output in Israel (around NIS 46 billion in 2002), and also around one-fifth of Israel’s total exports (US$3.7 in 2002). It employs a quarter of Israel’s industrial work force (about 90,000 workers).
The Metal and Electrical industries include a wide range of products and technologies intended for military and civilian use, for investments and infrastructure, for private and public consumption and for local and export markets.
Principal markets are:
- Aviation and Security - aircraft and spare parts, ships, tanks, missiles, armaments, ammunition, etc.
- Sub-contracting and industrial inputs – cutting and drilling equipment, piping, electrodes for cutting, electronic equipment, fitting and turning, etc.
- Building and infrastructure – steel for reinforcing concrete, piping, electrical and communications cables, electricity main boards, windows and doors, elevators, alternators, fences, etc.
- Investment assets and machinery – containers, silos, transportation equipment, generators, equipment for material handling and production, packaging and weighing machinery, lifting equipment, compressors and pumps, desalination equipment, etc.
- Automotive equipment - security and civilian vehicles, fire fighting vehicles, containers, components for buses, truck bodies, automotive batteries, radiators, air and gas filters, valves, engine overhaul, etc.
- Domestic electrical equipment – refrigerators, air conditioners, ovens, washing machines, solar heaters, water heaters, etc.
The Metal and Electrical Industries Association comprises approximately 350 members who manufacture an extremely wide range of products at differing technological levels. The Association provides a warm home and superior service to its members, starting with giant manufacturers of scores of goods and employing thousands of workers, through family businesses that manufacture only for the local market.
Apart from representing the general interests of its members, the Association’s staff provides them with personal service on a wide range of subjects. It also deals with three areas that are relevant to all branches of industry:
- Defense industries
- Standards
- Compulsory Tender Law.
The Association is directed by a public board of management comprising 25 industrialists and chaired by Mr. Moshe Cohen. The Director General is Mr. Yehuda Haiman. |
