The Department of Economic Research and Strategy closely follows developments in the Israeli economy, in industry and throughout the world, analyses the data and draws up economic estimates and forecasts. These analyses form the basis of all of the Department’s publications – economic memorandums, position papers, lectures prepared for heads of the MAI, economic counseling to MAI leaders, to its professional associations and to industrialists, economic presentations, surveys, economic reviews, etc.
Economic Analyses
The Economic Analyses are circulated to all MAI members and are published in the various media channels. They serve as a basis for the MAI’s position papers, documents and economic arguments.
- Monthly Analyses dealing with output, employment, productivity and exports.
- Quarterly Analyses dealing with salaries in industry, investments in industry, the building sector, foreign trade, the labor market, GDP and its uses.
- Bi-annual Analyses of financial reports of companies trading on the Stock Exchange.
- Annual Analyses: Macro-economic forecasts, publication of booklet “Wages and Labor Conditions in Industry”.
Surveys
- Survey of Expectations in Industry serves as a tool for understanding developments in industry during the previous quarter and a forecast of expected developments in the coming quarter.
- Survey of High Salaries in Industry serves as a highly important managerial tool for participants in this survey. The “Pilat” Company, in cooperation with the MAI, carries the survey out once a year. MAI members benefit from a special tariff.
Economic Policy
The Department’s activities include preparation of MAI position papers on central economic issues and as a response to proposed legislation brought before the Knesset, including presenting MAI stands in the various parliamentary committees, and ongoing attention to subjects such as: the Barnea Report for change in the rules of reporting by public companies, National Pension Law, Research and Development Law, Minimum Wage Law, Cost living Agreements and Package Deals, Tax Reforms, Business Restrictions, Employers’ Compensation, Proposed Law for a Shorter Working Week, Proposed Law for a Change in School Vacations, Proposed Law for Raising Customs Fees in the Textile Branch, MAI’s reaction to the government’s economic plan, to the government’s budget, etc.
Economic Counseling
The Department provide constant economic counseling to the heads of the MAI, to its professional associations, its branches and to member companies. This includes preparation of branch surveys, economic presentations, etc.
Lectures and Economic Presentations
- Preparation of lectures and economic presentations for heads of the MAI and member companies, for presentation to leaders of the government, various forums, seminars and important foreign dignitaries and organizations.
- Lectures on the state of Israeli industry, delivered on request at seminars and other forums.
